Treasury Gives 39 Banks TARP Funds

The Treasury Department invested $1.5 billion in 39 banks through the Capital Purchase Program this week.
The biggest recipient in this batch of funds is San Juan, Puerto Rico-based First BanCorp., which received $400 million.
The program uses $250 billion in Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) funds to buy preferred stock and warrants from banks to help to stabilize and strengthen the country's financial system. So far, the Treasury has spent $193.8 billion on the program.
