The year 2008 rung in more foreclosure activity with lenders repossessing about three out of every 1,000 households this year, according to foreclosure data provider ForeclosureS.com.

ForeclosureS.com said in its latest report that, so far this year, 210,280 homeowners have lost their homes to foreclosure. When compared to last year, 2008 also is the year of more daunting foreclosure statistics, with ForeclosureS.com saying repossession activity is up 70.6-percent from 1.7 of every 1,000 households in the first quarter of last year and 2.7-percent per every 1,000 households in the fourth quarter.

In a new report, ForeclosureS.com added that, “Big increases in the nation’s Southeast and Southwest regions led another 7.2 of every 1,000 households into pre-foreclosure in the first quarter (515,411 pre-foreclosure filings), up from 3.7 per 1,000 households (264,445 filings) in the 1st quarter of 2007.”

Alexis McGee, founder of ForeclosureS.com, does cite some positive news in her latest report, including her belief that in the long-run the markets will be better off after undergoing a natural correction. McGee says the crisis is highlighting that there was once an oversupply in homes due to aggressive construction, inflated prices and a supply of subprime loans that she says never should have been issued.
