ForeclosuresMass.com, a company that offers the latest data on foreclosures in the Bay State, released a report Wednesday, saying lenders filed some type of foreclosure-related activity against 9,114 Massachusetts properties between the months of January and March—a 37.59-percent increase when compared to foreclosure-related activities reported in the first quarter of last year.

ForeclosuresMass.com also said its “Quarter One 2008 Report” concluded that the first three months of 2008 made up the third “consecutive record breaking quarter” on the data aggregator's books.

“Despite all of the attention being given to the foreclosure issue, nothing has changed. In fact things have gotten worse,” said Jeremy Shapiro, president and co-founder of ForeclosuresMass.com. “Homeowners facing foreclosure should not wait for a miracle cure to this problem; rather they should seek the help of qualified professionals to help them avoid foreclosure.”

Shapiro's group broke the foreclosures down by region and found that in the state's 351 communities, 271 reported significant increases in foreclosures and 73 communities saw their foreclosure-related activity jump at least 75-percent in the past year.

ForeclosuresMass.com added that in the past 12 months, 32,349 Massachusetts homeowners experienced the pains of a pending or a full-fledge foreclosure -- a 44.78-percent jump in activity when compared to the previous year.
